December 5, 2009: Boreks

Another morning's hard birding at Banyule (where I saw this alien-looking species for the first time!) left me craving lunch by the time I met up with Cindy at the Queen Vic Markets. The spicy potato boreks had been recommended to me, and they didn't disappoint.

Crispy on the outside, deliciously soft on the inside, this is the perfect treat. The chilli in the filling gives the whole thing enough flavour, while the potato and pastry are warm and filling. At just $2.50, it's hard to imagine a better value snack in Melbourne.

Another reason to love them: they're suitable for vegans!

  4. I know that these ones aren't vegan, but the cheese and spinach boreks from this place must be one of the most delicious foods on earth!

Also, every now and then they do a spicy chickpea which is vegan, a bit nutty and delicious... be on the lookout!

  6. I wish I'd been ready for lunch while we were at the markets... I think I'll chase down the chickpea one next time we're in the neighbourhood.
